Issue:
In Lotus Domino 5.09 - 8, various notes.ini parameters could be entered that helped better manage (expand or detract) memory pool resources and tuning on the Domino Server. The Domino 8 server has a new memory manager. Note: Used more commonly used to tweak multiprocessor high memory UNIX / AIX / AS/400 machines.
PercentAvailSysResources
ConstrainedSHM, ConstrainedSHMSizeMB
MEMAddressableMem, MEMAddressableMemSizeMB
MEM_EnablePreAlloc, MEM_EnableSubAlloc
NSF_Buffer_Pool_Size_MB

Solution:
It is recommended to comment out the following as generally, the system will run better with the new memory manager than with these settings: Comment these lines out after performing the upgrade before starting the Domino server.

Other Info:
If you want to allow the server to update the applications (aka databases) to the Domino 8 ODS 48, add the following to a 8.0x server notes.ini:
Create_R8_Database=1

After doing this, you can use the new design and data compression settings (application properties advanced tab - 2 checkboxes). This will save a lot of design overhead on mail files, without having to do any other reduction technique. Savings should be around 50% or greater for both design and document compression.
